HISTORY
Nunamaker Farms started out in 1979 as a small, part time beef cow operation. This developed into Nunamaker Simmentals which operated for about 30 years. Nutrients were imported onto the property each year via 750 pound round hay bales that were used to feed the cattle in the winter. Beef was exported. Feeding hay in round bale feeders has about a 15% loss. This wasted hay and animal manure were composted and used on the vegetable garden each year. The garden was totally organic and has been maintained that way since its inception. The garden was just for family use at that time.
In 2009 the beef cattle operation was phased out and the vegetable garden enlarged and vegetable sales on a limited scale began at the West Grove Farmers' Market in 2010. A small green house was added in the fall of 2011 and has been used for the production of bedding plants for the garden and for the market.
The garden varieties have stabilized over the years based on sales (see Our Crops for varieties offered for 2024) during this time along with support from the local community. Varieties have decreased in the last few years based on demand, sales, and age of the workforce. Produce includes a wide variety that supports paleo diets and is always gluten free. Following the demise of the West Grove Farmers' Market in 2014 and the Jennersville Farmers' Market at Sweet Peas in 2017 we continue to sell at the farm and again this year that will be the only location.

We keep this site up-to-date and extend an invitation for you to visit the farm and buy your produce here directly. We pick on demand so you know it's fresh. To get your produce at the farm just text 610 960-8968 to schedule a time that is convenient for both of us. We offer a weekly Farm Basket during the produce season for members. We may also have an "End of Lane Sale" 12-5 pm on days when produce is at its peak. This sale is self service and is advertised on our Facebook page. We open for business in May usually with some plant sales.

Organic produce is a popular buzz word in the industry and being certified is costly and certain chemicals are still allowed. Nothing in our environment is truly chemical free including the water we drink and the air we breathe. That being said we at Nunamaker Farms do not add any pesticides, herbicides or industrial fertilizers to any of our garden produce or the environment. If we have a bad insect infestation, the crop is not treated but plowed under. If you find a corn worm in our bicolor sweet corn it is because we use no pesticides. If our corn season seems short to you it is because corn worm infestations usually come later in the season so we stop growing corn at that time. It makes for some unpredictability during the growing season but allows us to sell quality non certified "organic" fruits and vegetables at non organic prices. No GMO seeds or plants are grown in our gardens. In addition we do not use plasticulture (plastic mulch film, drip tape, etc.) to control weeds which clogs up landfills because it is difficult to recycle. Our summers are spent planting, harvesting and weeding the garden by hand and machine.
Price of produce is always an important consideration. Nunamaker Farms uses organic methods although we are not certified organic. Our pricing is based on USDA daily price reports
https://www.marketnews.usda.gov/mnp/fv-home
and is lower than the National average retail price for non organic produce and is often lower than the terminal market (wholesale) price for organic produce. It depends on supply so prices can change daily. Certain produce is only available for a short time (days) so check this website often so you do not miss out on your favorites. Pound pricing accounts for differences in size where individual price per piece often overcharges when the specimen is small. Order by the piece and get charged by the pound. It is to your advantage and makes everything equal. Farm Basket members get notice of pending produce and special pricing. With diesel fuel prices more than doubling from the last couple of years produce prices are bound to increase this season but will still be based on USDA daily National average prices. Enjoy fresh organic produce from Nunamaker Farms.
